Abstract

Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic, immune-mediated disorder of the hair follicle characterized bynonscarring hair loss with a highly variable clinical course. It represents one of the most common autoimmuneconditions affecting the skin, with a lifetime risk of approximately 1–2%.
